MassDOT Billboard!

RATIONALE

The National Work Zone Awareness Week Contest, hosted by MassDOT, aimed to raise awareness about work zone safety, a critical issue impacting both workers and drivers nationwide. The 2023 NWZAW theme was “You play a role in work zone safety. Work with us.”

Winning the contest required effectively communicating this theme to a wide audience. My winning design successfully incorporated texture from real work-zone sites into the typography, and strategically hid the “L” in “ROLE” within a traffic cone, emphasizing the message. Following the win, I created 29 iterations of the same billboard across different sizes and formats.  

The digital billboard was displayed throughout the summer on various highways across Massachusetts.
